Sitting in Melbourne – some 8,700 kms away, my sister and I constantly think about our parents in Chennai – father (78) and mother (71). We reflect on their love, sacrifices, guidance and support constantly.
We recognized that while our parents have each other as social company, why are they still lonely.
My nightmares became a reality when my father was rushed to the hospital in Chennai. I was helpless, anxious and concerned not knowing who to call and whether or not I can trust the system. Having been in this very industry for such a long time and with years of experience, for once I felt vulnerable. Eventually my father pulled through by the grace of god and he is fine.
After this incident, I stood at a crossroad – How do I repay them? How do I make sure they have the necessary support and in an eco-system that took care of them without constraints but with love and respect.
My mind was wondering even further and I thought, if my parents are in a similar situation, how many other seniors are out there that I can affect a positive change on?
Turns out this number will equate to 350 million aged 60+ by 2050 in India!

With over 23 years of global experience in Hotel Management and Retirement Living, Avinash Vasudevan has dedicated his career to creating exceptional living environments. Now, in collaboration with Mr. Purushothaman, Avinash is channeling his experience and expertise into Elysium Retirement Living, an initiative aimed at creating vibrant, well-designed communities where seniors can thrive. With a deep understanding of both operational excellence and resident well-being, he is committed to shaping a new standard for senior living in India.
With 38 years of diverse experience across Retail, Telecom, Manufacturing, and Information industries, Mr. Purushothaman is a seasoned leader with a track record of driving innovation and excellence.
As Senior Vice President at Reliance Retail and Telecom, he spearheaded strategic initiatives and managed the establishment of 14 academies, impacting over half a million individuals across 18,040 stores.
Mr. Purushothaman’s visionary leadership has contributed to transformative growth in customer experience delivery, particularly in formats like Reliance Jewels and Reliance Digital.
Currently engaged in setting up academies for Jio’s new businesses, Mr. Purushothaman continues to push boundaries and drive innovation in the senior living sector in collaboration with Avinash Vasudevan.
